What is the Vienna Secession?

The most important of the Secession movements started in the 1890s, the Vienna Secession  was founded by young Austrian artists in 1897 to oppose the  exclusion of foreign artists from the Viennese Academy's exhibits. The group was led by its first President, Gustav Klimt.  Members included Josef Hoffmann, Kolomon Moser, J. M. Olbrich, Egon Schiele.

For more information, such as characteristics of the movement, other important artists/designers/architects, start your research with the suggestions on this page.
