Makers & Masks: Covid-19 in Fashion, Culture, & Safety

This guide examines the phenomenon of fashion businesses and individual makers responding in days and weeks to address the dramatic shortage of personal protective equipment for frontline medical responders during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis

Fashion Industry Response

The fashion industry responded early to the impending crisis on the east coast, creating clearing houses to collect protective gear, as well as turning their workshops to produce more masks and gowns. Local designers began initiatives throughout the tri-state area in order to support first responders. Other companies have contributed cash, footwear, makeup and scrubs to hospitals all over the country.
