HR Hiring Procedures for Non-Classroom Faculty

Faculty Senate

Faculty Senate

"Through its duly authorized officers and committees, the Faculty Senate shall play an active part in the governance of FIT, supplementary to and consistent with the policies of the Board of Trustees of FIT  As required by the Educational Law 355, Section 605.1, 'The faculty shall participate in the formulation of the policy relating to student health, scholarship, standards of admission, attendance and discharge of students, curriculum and other study programs, the granting of degrees, student activities, extra-curricular activities and student disciplines.  The faculty shall also present recommendations to the president regarding (a) the instructional budget, and (b) appointments, reappointments, tenure, special salary increments, promotions and leaves of absence of members of the instructional staff."

The Faculty Senate represents the faculty at FIT, with elected members from each School. It has the authority and duty to make recommendations and advocate for the faculty's interests in all aspects of campus life.

There are 9 standing committees, each committee has at least two opportunities for non-classroom faculty. Those positions are bolded below:

  • Executive Committee (membership – 2-year term)
    1. Two members from A&D
    2. Two members from B&T
    3. Two members from Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA)
    4. One member from Graduate Studies (GS)
    5. One member from Academic Affairs (AA) - NCF position
    6. One member from Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) - NCF position
    7. One Adjunct
    8. One Alternate – 1-year term, non-voting (only voting in the absence of a member)

 

  • Academic Assessment Committee (membership – 2-year term)
    1. Two members from A&D
    2. Two members from B&T
    3. Two members from Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA)
    4. One member from Graduate Studies (GS)
    5. One member from Academic Affairs (AA) - NCF position
    6. One member from Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) - NCF position
    7. One Adjunct
    8. One Alternate – 1-year term, non-voting (only voting in the absence of a member)
    9. Two students to be elected by the FIT Student Government Association (FITSGA) – 1-year term
    10. The following will serve as a consultant (non-voting) as needed:
      a. The Executive Director of Assessment
      b. The Committee will invite additional consultants as needed.

 

  • Academic Standards (membership – 2-year term)
    1. Two members from A&D
    2. Two members from B&T
    3. Two members from Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA)
    4. One member from Graduate Studies (GS)
    5. One member from Academic Affairs (AA) - NCF position
    6. One member from Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) - NCF position
    7. One Adjunct
    8. One Alternate – 1-year term, non-voting (only voting in the absence of a member)
    9. The following consultant (non-voting) will be invited to attend all regularly-scheduled meetings for the first half hour; the second half hour will be conducted as an Executive Session:
      The Director of Registration and Records or their designee (This consultant will also be invited to attend the CAS Appeals meetings that are scheduled during both the winter and summer break.)
    10. The following consultants (non-voting) will be invited to serve on an “as needed” basis:
      a. The Director of the Counseling Center or their designee
      b. The Director of Financial Aid or their designee
      c. Administrative Head of Enrollment Management and Student Success Division or their designee
      d. Associate Dean for Student Academic Support or their designee
      e. The Director of Educational Opportunity Programs or their designee

 

  • Committee to Evaluate Administrative Personnel (membership – 2-year term) 
    1. Two members from A&D
    2. Two members from B&T
    3. Two members from Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA)
    4. One member from Graduate Studies (GS)
    5. One member from Academic Affairs (AA) - NCF position
    6. One member from Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) - NCF position
    7. One Alternate – 1-year term, non-voting (only voting in the absence of a member)
    8. President and President-elect of the Faculty Senate.

 

  • Curriculum (membership – 2-year term)
    1. Two members from A&D
    2. Two members from B&T
    3. Two members from Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA)
    4. One member from Graduate Studies (GS)
    5. One member from Academic Affairs (AA) - NCF position
    6. One member from Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) - NCF position
    7. One Adjunct
    8. One Minor Coordinator (to serve as a liaison to all minor coordinators and be a regular voting member of
      the CWCC). (Approved as revised at the Faculty Senate General Meeting on 2/15/2024.)
    9. One Alternate – 1-year term, non-voting (only voting in the absence of a member)
    10. Three students – 1-year term, representing separate schools/divisions (1-AD/1-BT/1-LA) elected by
      the FIT Student Government Association (FITSGA)
    11. The following will serve as consultants (non-voting):
      a. Dean of Curriculum and Instruction or their designee
      b. Director of Registration & Records or their designee
      c. Director of Library or their designee

 

  • Instructional Technology (membership – 2-year term)
    1. Two members from A&D
    2. Two members from B&T
    3. Two members from Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA)
    4. One member from Graduate Studies (GS)
    5. One member from Academic Affairs (AA) - NCF position
    6. One member from Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) - NCF position
    7. One Adjunct
    8. One Alternate – 1-year term, non-voting (only voting in the absence of a member)
    9. Two students to be elected by the FIT Student Government Association (FITSGA) – 1-year term
    10. The following will serve as consultants (non-voting):
      a. CIO of IT or their designee
      b. Faculty Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching or their designee
      c. Executive Director of Online Learning and Academic Technologies

 

  • Sabbaticals and Release Time for Research (membership – 2-year term)
    1. Two members from A&D
    2. Two members from B&T
    3. Two members from Liberal Arts and Sciences (LA)
    4. One member from Graduate Studies (GS)
    5. One member from Academic Affairs (AA) - NCF position
