LibGuides V2 offers four different types of boxes - Standard, Tabbed, Gallery and Profile. The first two support multiple types of content (i.e. widgets, databases links, books, texts, feeds, etc.) while the last two serve more prescribed purposes.
To add a box to a LibGuides page you simply click on any blue add box link. If creating a new box, you will be asked to give your box a name, select the type and the position of the box. If you wish to keep the box hidden, check off "Draft Mode." You may also chose to reuse an exsitng box from another guide.
A Standard Box allows you to combine, or use individually, all of the following types of content:
The Tabbed Box acts like multiple Standard Boxes in one place. The first thing you will see upon creating a tabbed box will be these directions -
Once you have clicked on the gear in the upper right corner of the box, you will able to define and arrange your tab headings.
Once the tabs have been created you can combine, or use individually, the same content types as are available for the Standard Box
A Gallery Box is the display of images in slide show format. Images used show be roughly the same height and/or width as one another as the box will change size in relation to each image displayed.
As with the Tabbed Box your first step is to click on the gear icon at the upper right corner of your new box.
The next step is to decide whether you want to feature an image, book, database, or another LibGuides. Direction differ depending on choice. Please note assets such as books and database, have to exist in the assets manager prior to creating the Gallery Box.
LibGuides 2.0 treats profile boxes like any other box type. They can appear anywhere, and are not set to appear by default. If you add a profile box to a page, your profile is the default profile. If you would like to display someone else's profile you first need to click on the gear icon at the upper right corner of your the box.
A pop-up box will appear with a drop down menu of all profiles on the FIT account. You click on your selection and hit save.
Reusing a box that has already been created for another guide is a great way add content to another guide quickly. To recycle a box from another guide, click on the blue add box and select Reuse Existing Box. The following menu will appear
In the first two steps, you will select the original guide and then the box within that guide. Your next task is to give the guide a new name, if you choose. The default position of the recycled box will be the bottom of the column in which you are currently working, but this can be changed by using the "Position" drop down menu. Your next two steps are to decide whether you want to hide the box as a draft by clicking the "Draft Mode" box, and whether you want to create a copy of the original box by click the "Copy" box. Please note that by clicking Copy you will be adding a duplicate asset to the respository. It is recommend that you only do so if you plan to make significant changes or additions to the copied box.
