What is a Database and Why Would I Use One?

Finding the Right Database For Your Project

The FIT Library offers access to databases that include a wide range of materials. All of this information is reliable and freely available to all FIT students. You can access all of our databases through the databases page of our website. On that page, you will see the databases sorted by subject area. This will help you to find databases recommended by the FIT Library for your topic.

If your professor or advisor has recommended a particular database to you for your project, you can find that in our Databases A-Z List.

How Do I Log Into Databases?

Whenever you are prompted to log into an FIT database, you will want to use your FIT username and password. The video below demonstrates this process.

Using an Incognito Window

Our databases all work best if used in a Chrome Incognito window. If you don't use Chrome, a Mozilla Firefox Private window is also an option. The video below demonstrates how to use both of these.

What About OneSearch?

If you would like to try searching across multiple databases simultaneously, you can use OneSearch to achieve this goal. The video below shows how to use OneSearch to find articles, and specifically peer-reviewed articles, on a particular topic.
