This research guide offers resources for the technical aspects of fashion design. These include patternmaking, drafting, and draping as well as sizing and pattern grading.

Patternmaking Videos

Finding Patternmaking Videos

There are hundreds of videos out there on patternmaking techniques. Many are for casual garments and intended for self-taught sewers. Others show professional techniques. For the best help with your assignments, use the chapter or lesson headings as your search terms on YouTube or Vimeo. Here are examples from Helen Joseph Armstrong's Patternmaking for Fashion Design

  • Drafting the Basic Pattern Set
  • Designing with Darts (tuck-darts, pleats, flares, and gathers)
  • Built-Up Necklines
  • Kimono, Raglan, Drop Shoulder, and Exaggerated Armholes
  • Strapless Foundation
