Basic Format:
(Remember to italicize the book title.)
Last Name, First Initial. (Year of Publication). Title of book: Subtitle. Publisher.
Example:
Cunningham, B. (2018). Fashion climbing. Penguin Press.
Two authors:
(List the authors in the order they are listed in the book. Use an ampersand between the names.)
Koda, H., & Yohannan, K. (2009). The model as muse: Embodying fashion. Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Ferrell, O. C., Hirt, G. A., & Ferrell, L. (2016). Business : A changing world (10th ed.). McGraw-Hill Education.
For eight or more authors:
(Use an ellipse between the seventh author and the last author.)
Mann, T., Crane, S., Williams, W. C., O’Hara, J., Chekhov, A. P., Anderson, S., … Schorer, M. (1950). The story : A critical anthology. Prentice-Hall.
Sometimes a book's author can be an organization or a government agency instead of a person.
American Union of Decorative Artists and Craftsmen. (1992). Modern american design. Acanthus Press.
If there is no author just begin with the title. When you are alphabetizing your works cited page, treat the first word of the title as if it were an author's last name. For example, the book below would appear between L and N.
Merriam-Webster's collegiate dictionary (11th ed.). (2003). Merriam-Webster.
eBooks are cited similarly to print books but should mention the platform or file type (e.g. Kindle, Bloomsbury Fashion Central).
Sandhu, A. (2015). Indian fashion: Tradition, innovation, style. [Bloomsbury Fashion Central version]. doi: 10.5040/9781474232364
If you are citing one essay/chapter of the anthology use the following form:
Last name, First Initial. (Year of Publication). Title of Essay. In Editor's Name (Ed.), Title of collection, (Page range of entry). City, State: Publisher.
Example:
Poe, E. A. (1998). Fall of the House of Usher. In William L. Andrews (Ed.), The literature of the American South: A Norton anthology (pp. 103-116). W.W. Norton.
If you are citing the entire anthology here is an example:
(The editor's name will go where the author's name typically goes.)
Andrews, W.L. (Ed.). (1998). The literature of the American South: A Norton anthology. W.W. Norton.
