Citing Sources: APA

Basic format

Entire website:

Cite only as an in-text citation, giving the website's URL/address in parenthesis.  Do not add to the list of references.  

Page or part of a website:

If possible, determine the content type of the webpage (e.g., journal article, e-book, newspaper story, blog post) and use the appropriate citation.  Select this guide's tab for citation format (for example, if it's a journal article, select 'Articles' tab). Otherwise use format below:

Author, A. A. (date). Title of document [Format description]. Retrieved from http://URL

  • Use format description in brackets only when  format is out of the ordinary, such as a blog post or lecture notes; otherwise, it's not necessary.

Entire website  - in-text citation only: 

From your text, for example:  The Council of Fashion Designers of America is actually a trade association and organizes events and programs to promote American fashion and designers (http://cfda.com).
