This page is intended to point researchers towards materials that address the fashion and trends of those in a particular subculture.
A subculture is a group whose members share beliefs and common experiences that set them apart from others in society at
large. These groups may possess distinct values and norms that differ from the majority, such as behaviour, beliefs, symbolic expression, social situations, consumption activity, religion, ethnicity, sexuality or interest. Group differences are very often expressed by fashions that differ from the mainstream or runway fashion.
There have been many more subcultures in history than the FIT Library has periodicals with information for. To search in OneSearch for the culture you want:
-search by subculture name, such as "punk fashion" or "hip hop - influence"
-search by decade by spelling the time frame out, such as "nineteen sixties fashion"
-search by the music genre most associated with the fashion, such as "Kpop" and "popular music"
